Southern Arizona Climbing Coalition Meeting - May 28, 2013

Southern Arizona Climbing Coalition Meeting

The first meeting of the Southern Arizona Climbing Coalition (SACC) in over a decade was held this evening at the Martha Cooper Branch Library. Scott Ayers called the meeting and it was attended by about 40 people. Many notables in the climbing community were there along with a strong showing by the staff of Rocks and Ropes. The meeting started around 6:00 and finished at about 7:30.

Scott started the meeting by going through the history of SACC and the prior Catalina Climbers Coalition. From there, he described possible directions for SACC and activities that the organization could be involved with. The primary purpose of SACC is as a local climber's advocasy group. A large part of the meeting focused on defining the organizational structure of SACC. Jeff Mayhew and Scott McNamara came out strongly that an organized structure was required. Jeff insisted that temporary board members be selected tonight. Scott Ayers, Jeff Mayhew, and Alex Kirkpatrick accepted positions as temporary co-directors. Emily Rockey was named secretary and Jan Neubauer was named treasurer. It was not clear when formal elections would be held.

The next meeting was originally set for Wednesday, July 17 at the Martha Cooper Branch Library but the date has tentatively been moved to Thursday, July 25th.
