Peregrine Falcon Closures in Southern Arizona

This document describes my involvement with the Coronado National Forest, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service and the Arizona Game and Fish regarding the closures associated with the American Peregrine Falcon. The document is broken up into three chapters. It starts in October 2007 and extends through 2009.

Chapter 1: October 2007 - January 2008

This chapter describes my initial involvement with the Peregrine Falcon issue. It covers my meeting with the biologists from the Coronado National Forest, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Arizona Game and Fish. It also contains a lot of scientific information on the American Peregrine Falcons and many links to U.S. Fish and Wildlife service documents.

Chapter 2: September 2008

This chapter is describes the e-mail exchange which includes and follows a Forest Service e-mail sent by Melissa Fisher. Her e-mail proposes that the number of American Perigrine Falcon closures in 2009 would increase from seven to 35.

Chapter 3: December 2008 - April 2009 [Updated 4/20/2009]

This chapter describes the e-mail exchange at the end of 2008 and through April 2009 in which I try to determine what the American Peregrine Falcon closures will be in 2009 in the Coronado National Forest.

Chapter 4: November 2009

This chapter describes the e-mail exchange in the fall of 2009. Rick Gerhart has replaced Larry Jones as the Wildlife, Fish and Rare Plants Staff Officer for the Coronado National Forest. So far, it doesn't appear as if there will be any changes in 2010.
